MATCH REPORT - Dulwich Hamlet - 06/12/25

Billericay Town 1 (Collis 29 pen) – Dulwich Hamlet 2 (Wanadio 16 pen, Kassarate 62)

Amadou Kassarate’s second half strike secured Dulwich Hamlet their first victory over Billericay in more than seven years. His 62nd minute goal gave Hamlet the points at New Lodge after Teddy Collis’ penalty cancelled out Luke Wanadio’s earlier effort from 12 yards.

The Blues registered the first chance after eight minutes when Jack Evans fired past Toby Bull’s upright, but Hamlet soon took control of proceedings and went close themselves soon after as Wanadio curled an effort inches past the post.

And it was Wanadio who scored the opener not long after, converting confidently from the spot after Matt Johnson brought down his man inside the area.

The goal sparked Ricay into life and they began to build pressure of their own. Their persistence was rewarded just before the half hour, when Merrifield was bundled over by Joseph Adewunmi and Collis stepped up, sending Bull the wrong way to level the contest.

Chances were at a premium for the remainder of the half meaning the sides went in level at the break.

The Blues began the second half on the front foot and could have gone ahead on 49 minutes when Ryan Scott rose highest from a corner but headed over. Moments later Jay Porter was played through only to be denied by a superb stop from Bull who spread himself to keep the scores level.

Dulwich produced reminders of their threat and went close when Giovanni Palmer flashed a cross through a crowded six yard box that somehow evaded everyone. At the other end, Liam Nash lifted a curling strike over the bar, and Evans remained a threat with another effort that drifted wide.

But it was Hamlet who delivered the decisive blow, albeit against the run of play. Just past the hour mark, Kassarate collected the ball in the box, spun sharply and drilled a low finish into the far corner to put the away side back in front.

Wanadio then passed up a golden chance to extend the lead, steering wide from close range, and that miss sparked a late Billericay surge as they pushed for an equaliser.

The hosts created a flurry of chances in the closing stages, the closest arriving from Porter whose diving header clipped the outside of the post. The chances continued as the clock struck 90, as Nash sent a volley inches wide and Evans fired over from the edge of the box.

Hamlet were clinging on and their biggest test came deep into stoppage time when Merrifield turned inside the area and unleashed a strike destined for the roof of the net, but Bull produced a remarkable fingertip save to touch the effort onto the crossbar and secure the points for his Hamlet team.

The result ends the Blues’ run of six games unbeaten in the league, while Dulwich pick up their first win in six league outings and take the points back to south London.
