THE AWAY END - Carshalton Athletic
CARSHALTON ATHLETIC
Nickname: The Robins
Manager: Peter Adeniyi
Stadium: War Memorial Sports Ground
Capacity: 5,000
Our final
outing before Christmas sees the Blues welcome Carshalton Athletic to New Lodge
for today’s encounter. The Robins arrive in Essex on the back of an
inconsistent run of form that has seen them slide down the table, and Peter
Adeniyi’s side will be keen to rediscover some momentum this afternoon.
Carshalton have
struggled to find any real rhythm this season, collecting six wins, six draws,
and nine defeats from their 21 league fixtures to date. Recent weeks have
brought mixed results, with just two victories in their last ten league matches,
and their most recent success came over a month ago with a 3-2 win away at
Lewes.
On their
travels this campaign, the Robins have recorded three wins, three draws, and
five defeats. Their latest away outing ended in frustration, conceding a
stoppage-time equaliser in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Wingate & Finchley two
weekends ago after looking set to claim all three points.
In front of
goal, the Robins have been relatively productive, scoring 32 league goals so
far. Kola Salami leads the way with eight goals, closely followed by Bryan
Ifeanyi on seven. Defensive solidity has been harder to come by, however, with
37 goals conceded leaving Carshalton in the bottom half of the division for
that metric.
The sides have
already met this season, with Carshalton claiming a 1-0 victory in August
courtesy of a second-half strike from Salami. The most recent meeting at New
Lodge came back in February, when a Femi Akinwande hat-trick secured a
thrilling 3-2 win for the Blues.
